How to remember the people you meet

A practical way to keep names, conversations, and next steps after networking events, without dumping everything into a notes app.

Remembering people is the part of networking most tools ignore. You can leave with twenty cards and still fail on Monday, because the card is not the story.

What you need later is usually small and specific: their name, what they do, what you talked about, where you met, and whether you promised a follow-up.

Why notes apps fail here

A notes app is fine for one conversation. It breaks when the night is busy.

  • Notes are not attached to a person.
  • Cards live in a pocket or a photo roll.
  • Follow-ups become a separate reminder, if they become anything at all.
  • Context scatters across apps before the week starts.

That scatter is why "I will message them tomorrow" so often turns into silence.

A better capture habit

Use one capture per person, as soon as you can after the conversation:

  1. Get the facts. Name, role, company, and how to reach them. A card scan is fastest when you have one.
  2. Keep one sentence of context. What they are working on, what you offered, or what you want to send them.
  3. Park them in the event. The night needs a home, or every contact becomes detached.

If you cannot write while you are still talking, do it immediately afterwards. A thirty-second voice note beats a blank Monday.

What good memory looks like later

When you open the person later, you should be able to answer:

  • Where did we meet?
  • What did we talk about?
  • Did I promise anything?
  • What is the next useful message?

If those answers are already on their profile, follow-up stops feeling fake.

Where Orbit fits

Orbit is built around that habit. Capture with voice or a scan, keep the transcript and summary on the person's timeline, then ask Orbit Assistant for a follow-up draft when you are ready to send.

It does not replace being present in the room. It replaces the scramble afterwards.

See conversation memory and contact capture for the product detail.

For conversations

Be there for it. Let Orbit help you remember, follow through, and keep the relationship.
